need IKEA and IKEA-situation photos

I am writing a creative nonfiction-style article about IKEA as rite of passage for youth and people who are making their way in the world for the Cult of Youth reader. I am looking for photos to illustrate the article, be it of store shots, assembly disasters, or any IKEA related situation in general. Can be arty, must be high-resolution and focused on the products, store, or shoppers/consumers.

If chosen, your work will be published in the Cult of Youth reader in January 2006. You will keep your copyright and get a free copy of the publication.

impostor syndrome

just discovered this thing called the "impostor" syndrome. i realized this is the feeling i get when i try to teach an art class full of high schoolers or make a presentation. also seems to be tightly linked to being female-socialized. glad to know there are others out there.

"The Impostor Syndrome
Finding a Name for the Feelings

by Dr. Valerie Young

I'll never forget the day I first learned about the Impostor Syndrome. It was 1983. A chronic procrastinator, I was in my fourth year of a doctoral program. Like a lot of graduate students, my status was what was commonly referred to as "A-B-D," meaning I'd completed "all but the dissertation."

I was sitting in class one day when another student rose to present the findings of a study conducted by psychology professor Pauline Clance and psychologist Suzanne Imes called The Impostor Phenomenon Among High Achieving Women (1978).

In a nutshell, Clance and Imes found that many of their female clients seemed unable to internalize their accomplishments. External proof of intelligence and ability in the form of academic excellence, degrees, recognition, promotions and the like was routinely dismissed. Instead, success was attributed to contacts, luck, timing, perseverance, personality or otherwise having "fooled" others into thinking they were smarter and more capable than these women "knew" themselves to be. ....."

SOIL AUCTION THIS FRIDAY September 30, Western Bridge, 7pm

SOIL, a non-profit arist co-op based in the Tashiro-Kaplan building, is
having their yearly auction at stately Western Bridge gallery this year.
I have donated a piece, "Let me introduce you to bad vibes", a
watercolor and ink multi-media work on paper exploring sentiency of
one's moods, to the auction. Other great artists have donated too, so
make sure to take advantage of this chance to own quality, known work.

(more details below)

Secondly: Look for my work to be show soon at Zebra Club Cap Hill (Date TBA)
and Fremont Coffee (Jan 05)

Thirdly: After a very rough month, as many of you have probably

Theme: Traveling beyond our means

-The Cult of Youth is looking for members! (M. Goldin) - Introduction to
the project and sideshow-like banter
-Travel Queeries (E. Graney-Saucke)- collaboration with Elliat's
European queer youth inquiry from Barcelona to Berlin
-Journaling Southeast Asia (L. Gjoring) - 'Rae' goes to the ends of the
world on her seminal youth exploration and reports back about looking
through young eyes at a world in its twilight
-Life and Death and Keeping Up (M. Goldin) - a dirge about mortality
-Opressed? (M. Knezek) - Margaritte talks about her work and experiences
with youth culture and status quo in Brazil

(you should learn how to shoot a 19th c. pistol!)

Pushkin's duel with D'Anthès

in russia this is told to young girls as kind of a romance gothic; a
reason to go out with the "geeky smart" guy b/c then he'll become this
amazing (if somewhat consumptive looking, but hey, big noses=...) poet
who will duel for your honor and die in some snowy field in period
clothes. only he dueled cause his bitch ass ho cheated on him.

"Pushkin died as a result of a duel with a young French émigré
nobleman who was accused, in anonymous letters to the poet, of being
the lover of Pushkin's flirtatious young wife. He was buried secretly
by government officials whom Lermontov, among others, accused of
complicity in the affair"
