yesterday i saw the brightest falling star i have ever seen in my life. i thought it was a missle. i made a very unlikely, but hopeful wish.
here are some pics from my week o' arts (illustration) teaching....more thoughts to come...

so here's a question: how do you teach art when you haven't been taught it yourself?
this is the 2nd year where i try to answer that question by way of practicum.
so here's how it goes: i teach a weeklong teen illustration series at a fine arts school. its nerveracking (because that's how i am) and i feel a great sense or responsibility, and that's where most of the anxiety comes from. the kids are great. the administrators are great. the facility is neat. but me? i am a mess! getting sick on day one doesn't help either. though i do live 4 blocks away from this place...location is impeccable.
here's a rundown of what we've done so far( Read more...Collapse )
i'll share my final recollections w/ y'alls tomorrow.
so ... there is this band-
katharine hepburn's voice (KHV)
they're pretty much the zenith of seattle as far as i am concerned. their songs speak to both the weepy and fun-loving parts of the human experience i have loved them for 2 years, and loved their previous incarnation, dalmatians. i think you should check them out - they pick and choose their gigs carefully so their live shows are rare treats. plus they just printed run of ltd edition vinyl for their 2nd release "unlimited nights and weekends" and i have practically worn mine out listening to it.

i haven't written in this thing for, like, forever
2007 will probably bring no international travel and that's ok. 2006: june - paris with mom, decemeber - russia, to see mom (this time less cheery). some of you know the rest of the story. no more visas. no more triple changeovers. no more anxiety attacks on russian aircraft.
art is going well---getting more illustration work (see here
) from the poetry foundation website.
still working where i was before. a student at the UW now--in my 2nd quarter there...
i am trying to get my foot in the door doing display for high fashion places in c-town--places like barney's, marios, etc.
trying to keep it together and muster up motivation to wake up in the morning. always a challenge.
really looking forward to harvest season--to farm-fresh bok choy from helsing CSA
, to heirloom tomatoes, to tabouli on a weekly basis, and svekolnik, and all kinds of goodness tossed with annie's sesame ginger dressing and bleu cheese. and good bread. and flowers!
all for now,
